Thomas Tratthen one of Dunmore Fire Department’s own lost his courageous battle with cancer early on January 20, 2019. Tom, following his father began his career as a firefighter in his home town of Olyphant as a teenager. He obtained his associates in Fire Science from Luzerne County Community College and was then appointed to the Fire Department of New York City. He returned to Northeast Pennsylvania where he served with many Mid-Valley fire departments. He came to Dunmore Fire department in the early 2000’s as a part time firefighter until being appointed in 2002. He left his full time position at Dunmore in 2007 to pursue a career in safety in the private sector. He maintained a position as part time firefighter until his passing. Tom was also a well  known instructor teaching throughout Pennsylvania and even teaching internationally. He taught his craft with the same passion he had for living life. He will be deeply missed by the entire fire service and especially by all the members of Dunmore Fire Department.
